May 5, 2003 Today, Cinderella does not need a fairy godmother.
Do you remember how the poor dress of Cinderella turned into beautiful evening gown with a wave of a wand? Today, Cinderella does not need the services of a fairy godmother. She can turn into a mystique princess by herself. To do this, it is enough to put on a dress made of the fabric manufactured by the Italian company “Luminex Spa”. Instead of a wand, it is enough to press a secret button. The fabric fibers will start glowing brightly forming a spellbinding beautiful pattern.
The manufacturing technology of the new fabric theoretically looks simple enough. Any fabric – from lycra to wool – is interwoven with a very thin plastic optical fiber connected to a power source. The optical fiber is heated by electric current and heat is transformed into light. In other words, the optical fiber works as a light-emitting diode. Today, Luminex only produces light-emitting fibers in five colors: red, green, yellow, white, and blue. But the company's specialists are sure that in the near future the palette may become much wider.
The optical fibers are activated by a small battery that can be easily hidden in a small secret pocket.
Perhaps, a very useful device for such a dress would be a battery discharge indicator for preventing battery discharge right in the middle of the ball. Otherwise the beautiful dress will become gray again, the coach will turn into a pumpkin, and the beauty will have to escape from the ball loosing her crystal slipper.

The example is very simple – change of the optical properties of an object – and the effect is impressive!
