January 30, 2004 Once a country teacher decided to test the mother wit of country children... (Chinese folktale)
Once a country teacher decided to test the mother wit of country children. They took two wooden buckets and went together to a bamboo bridge over a river. The teacher dipped up water from the river so that the buckets where not full.
'Now then, who can carry these buckets to the opposite side of the river? The one who manages to do this will get a present.'
“I will do, I will do,” the children started crying, but immediately fell silent because it turned out that the bamboo bridge was shaky and hanging very low over the water. Try as they would, nobody would be able to cross it. Nobody wanted to fall into water together with the bridge.
They could not decide what to do when one of them grasped the buckets and courageously set foot on the bridge. He had hardly made a step when his feet sank in the water.
At that moment, Suey Venchan stepped forward and said,
'If nobody want to, let me try!'
He immersed half-filled buckets into the river and made sure that they were not going to sink. Then he tied ropes to the buckets and carefully crossed the bridge hanging the buckets by water.
