November 25, 2002 Many years ago a three-eyed giant monk lived on the mountain pass called Tatto... (Japanese tale)
Many years ago a three-eyed giant monk lived on the mountain pass called Tatto. He had two claws protruding from his mouth and he hopped because he only had one leg. Lord forbid that anybody meet him in the mountain! He will be scared to death!
Nobody dared go to the mountain alone. But one blind man did not know that the monster lived on the mountain pass and went there alone. He was going uphill feeling his way with the end of his stick when all of a sudden the giant appeared from the wood. He saw the traveler, darted to the middle of the road and cried in a roaring voice:
“You-hoo! Where are you going? I am a three-eyed and one-legged monster!”
The giant looked at the old man with all the three eyes and thought: “What will he do in fear?” But the old man did not care who was in front of him. He felt around with his stick and said quietly:
“Who is there on the road? Stand by! Don't you see that I am an eyeless monster on three legs?”
The giant was frightened and ran away to the mountains.
